The Cricket Hoppers story

Cricket Hoppers has been born out of an absolute love of cricket.

Ben and Ian have both been involved with cricket teams in Winchester for years and Ian has coached children’s cricket for over 30 years.

The idea for Cricket Hoppers came from Ben trying to find a cricket class to take his young boys to, and struggled find one that offered cricket for more than twelve weeks of the year.

Cricket Hoppers offers classes for boys and girls aged three to eight, allowing everyone to get involved.  We’ve designed an indoor programme, meaning we can offer it all year round.

Ben and Ian are both avid cricket fans, and play for cricket clubs in Hampshire. Ben has recently stepped away from a successful career in Financial Services to bring cricket to the masses.  Ben is Dad to two boys, Harry and Max who are currently in primary school in Winchester.  His business acumen, alongside exceptional organisational skills help the business side of Cricket Hoppers run smoothly.

Our Head Coach Ian has a wealth of experience in cricket coaching, and is the current Head Coach of Easton & Martyr Worthy Cricket Club, a role he's held since 2003.  Since he qualified as a Physical Education, English and Drama teacher (Exeter University) Ian has spent many years involved in school cricket both primary and senior school age. Combining his teaching qualification and the work he's been involved in with the ICC & ECB coaching programmes (since first qualifying in 1988, Ian now holds the ECB Level 3 qualification) Cricket Hoppers gives him the opportunity to bring cricket to a younger audience, all year round, something he's very excited about.

Our Coaches

All of our qualified coaches have played and coached for local teams in Hampshire. They bring extensive cricket knowledge as well as a sense of fun, to our classes.  Many have been coached by Ian himself and all have a passion to introduce cricket to young children.  All of our staff undergo rigorous training to ensure they deliver a progressive training programme for your children, so they can enjoy many years of playing cricket.  We hope to see some future World Cup champions!

We of course take your child's safety seriously, so

all our coaches adhere to the Cricket Hoppers

safeguarding policy.

"Having coached for many years, Cricket Hoppers gives me the opportunity to start coaching at grass roots level, helping a new generation to play cricket"

(Lottie, Cricket Hoppers coach)
